1. What is a cookie?
Cookies are text files that are downloaded to your computer or mobile device when you visit a certain webpage. These cookies are then sent back to the originating webpage on each subsequent visit, or to another webpage that recognizes those cookies. Cookies are used by websites in order to work properly and provide information about users to the website owner.
Cookies are quite handy. They let you navigate between pages with ease and remember your preferences. They also help improve the user experience. For example, they can tell us if you’re new to the website or if you’ve visited before, in order to provide a better experience for users like you. Cookies may also help ensure that ads on sites like ours are tailored to your interests; for example, by recognizing what content you have read or clicked on previously.
Cookies can be categorized into two broad buckets:
- First-party cookies,The first-party cookies we serve are set by us and directly delivered to you.
- Third-party cookies, Our cookies are managed by third-party vendors. They are served on our behalf and perform a variety of functions, such as improving website usability, performance or analytics, banner advertisements and social media functionalities.
There are two types of cookies that can reside in your browser for different lengths of time. Session cookies exist only while you’re browsing the Internet and are deleted when you close your browser. Permanent cookies, on the other hand, stay in your computer even after you’ve closed the browser; they can be used to remember your computer so it’s recognized when you open the browser again.
2. How do we use cookies?
We use cookies to:
- track traffic flow and patterns of travel in connection with our Websites;

We allow third-party companies, including advertising companies, to place cookies on our Websites. These cookies enable such companies to track your activity across various sites where they display ads and record your activities so they can show ads that they consider relevant to you as you browse the Internet. These cookies are anonymous — they store information about the content you are browsing, but not about who you are. Cookies also allow us and third parties to know whether you’ve seen an ad or a type of ad, and how long it has been since you’ve last seen it. This information is used for frequency capping purposes to avoid you seeing the same multiple times, to help tailor the ads you see, to detect and prevent click fraud, and to measure the effectiveness of ads. | All the ad companies or networks that we work with have their own privacy policies and offer a mechanism for users to opt-out of tracking and behavioral targeting available through the ad itself or through the opt-out mechanisms listed in the “How to control or delete cookies” section below. | |
Social Mediasfi Cookies | On some pages of our Websites, third parties that provide applications through our Websites may set their own anonymous cookies in order to track the success of their applications or customize applications for you. For example, when you share an article using a social Mediasfi sharing button on our Websites(e.g., Twitter or Facebook), the social network that has created the button will record that you have done this. Because of how cookies work, we cannot access these cookies, nor can third parties access the data in cookies used by us.
